Another sign of the better economic times...Most employees are now looking for a new job:
Bottom Line: It's probably a bit alarming to hear and think about half of your workplace turning over but that's the potential desire of half of them according to Gallup's latest workforce study. It's normal in a healthy economy to have many folks open to new opportunities but this is about the largest number of people hoping the grass is greener elsewhere in over a decade. Companies that have grown complacent with employee retention need to take note or risk losing top people in the new year. According to the findings:
51% of all current employees are searching for new opportunities
47% say they're doing so because of the strength of the labor market
So, boil this all down and here's the thing. About 24% of those who are at least satisfied with their jobs are still looking right now simply due to the perceived opportunities. Many employers are aware of those who're less than happy with their employment...however many employers could potentially be caught off-guard with so many of their happiest employees who potentially jump ship for perceived better opportunities as well. The economy is the best it's been in 12 years. That positive change brings about the types of opportunities for many that haven't been available in over a decade as well. Employers should be proactive in addressing the needs and concerns of employees they value. This especially includes addressing compensation and related benefits to remain competitive.
Conversely, companies that are looking to recruit/poach key talent are in the best position to do so in well over a decade. 2017 was the year of positive economic change for our economy. 2018 stands to be the year of transitions due to the positive change.
