Police in New York confirm that one person is in custody and no other injuries were reported after a pipe bomb went off in a subway tunnel near the Port Authority bus terminal. Cop cars, fire trucks and ambulances responded to the corner of 42nd Avenue and 8th Street, near Times Square this morning.
One person was in custody after an explosion near New York City’s Port Authority bus terminal during Monday morning’s rush hour — a blast that prompted mass chaos and halted multiple subway lines, the NYPD said.
The suspect has injuries that are not life threatening, The Associated Press reported. Three other people suffered injuries that are not life threatening, officials said.
The suspected bomber was a 27-year-old ISIS-inspired Bangladeshi national who lived in Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The New York Post. The suspect allegedly packed the 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack into the right side of his jacket, but the device exploded prematurely. The suspect told police he made the bomb at the electrical company where he works, The New York Post reported.
