Palm Beach County's top prosecutor is in Washington D.C. today to help boost the fight against opioid abuse. State Attorney Dave Aronberg is scheduled to testify before a House committee, which will look at ways to better protect patients from illegal sober home operators. Aronberg's Sober Home Task Force has made more than 40 arrests in the past year for patient brokering. The state attorney has told me that addicts are lured here to South Florida with promises of "getting sober in the sunshine," then being given drugs on occasion, so that they will continue to fail urine tests, all while the insurance money continues to flow in for these operators of so-called sober homes.
