Tracking Trump - The President's approval for December 29th:

Bottom Line: This is one of two weekly tracking stories to get a reality/temperature check with regard to what's really going on with public opinion of the President. In this series we'll track the high point, low point and current ratings...

  • Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval and 59% disapprove: -22% (8/4/17)

  •  Trump highest approval ratings were an average 45% approval and 43%   disapproval +2% (1/27/17):

  • Trump's current ratings: 42% approval and 54% disapprove: -12%

President Trump's current approval ratings are the best they've been since March. While still negative overall, his net approval average over the past week is ten points higher than the low point in August and is six points higher than just three weeks ago at the time of my last update. It's not a secret as to why. With the best economy in over a decade, real economic momentum entering 2018 and the passage of the tax reform law that's about to deliver a 4% raise effective next week...

On another note we're continuing to see a significant difference in one's opinion based on their level of political engagement. The more likely someone is to vote, the higher his overall approval rating.

  • With adult only samples his rating over the past week averaged: 38%

  • Registered voters: 43%

  • Likely voters: 45%

That tells a pretty telling story. There's a big difference between 38% and 45% (statistically greater than 7% difference in outcomes) during election cycles.

The range was Rasmussen 7% to Gallup -18%
