It appears President Trump “stepped in it” again, by referring to some poor countries, namely those in Africa, by an expletive relating them to toilets. Here’s the background, if you’ve missed it:
President Trump lamented “s---hole countries” during immigration negotiations on Thursday with lawmakers in the Oval Office, Fox News has confirmed.
“Why are we having all these people from s---hole countries come here?” the president said, in comments first reported by The Washington Post.
The president was referring to people from Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and African countries in the temporary protected status program, a source in the meeting told Fox News.
Some countries are speaking out about the reported comment:
President Donald Trump's "s---hole countries" remark Thursday drew sharp reactions from the U.N. human rights office -- as well as the nations to which the president referred in his comment.
It also prompted the U.S. government's Africa Media Hub to issue a statement reiterating the U.S. commitment to working with its African allies.
"US deeply respects the people of #Africa & values its partnerships with them," the tweet read in part.
The U.N. office said Friday that Trump's reported use of an expletive to describe Africa and other countries could "potentially damage and disrupt the lives of many people."
The President tweeted about the situation twice this morning. The first tweet seemed to insinuate that he didn’t actually use the word being described in the media.
His second tweet about the subject was apparently meant to clarify that he didn’t call Haiti a ___hole.
