The partial government shutdown is in Day 3. The Senate failed to reach a deal over the weekend to extend funding before the work week was to get underway. Plans are in place for a vote at Noon today, attempted at ending the shutdown. Republicans are proposing a funding extension to February 8, with a commitment to take up the so-called “dreamers” issue separately and soon.
The Senate adjourned Sunday without reaching an agreement to end the government shutdown as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called for both parties to "step back from the brink."
"The shutdown should stop today," McConnell, R-Ky., said on the Senate floor Sunday evening. "And we'll soon have a vote that will allow us to do that."
