Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for January 23rd
Bottom Line: These are the daily doses of nonsense in the media and my hot takes on them...
Excerpt: If an asteroid is headed toward Earth and NASA is shut down, who will astronomers call to issue a warning?
The space agency hasn’t quite figured it out yet, but said somebody should be around to answer the phone. “There will be people available should such an incident occur,” NASA’s Bob Jacobs told BuzzFeed News by email.
Hot Take: You call Bruce Willis of course! Only this time I vote that Ben Afflack stays to finishing business. Who's with me? Credit loyal listener Richard Hughes with a heads up on this one. You can't make this up. This was an actual story covered as a legitimate topic of concern. Now, it's evident that we've been nailed by at least one in our planet's multi-billion year history that turned into a mass extinction event (now that's some climate change for you) but I like our odds of the next one not occurring during one of our government shutdowns. You'd actually be more likely to win consecutive Power Ball jackpots.
Why Do Republicans Hate America? Carol Anderson, HuffPost
Excerpt: Why do Republicans hate America? No, really. It’s not a rhetorical question. Since consolidating its power in January 2017, the GOP has systematically set out to dismantle the economic strength of this nation, coddle predators, shield traitors, attack those who are working, and strip protections from the most vulnerable. Are these the actions of a party that loves the nation it has sworn to serve?
Hot Take: (Jaw drops - looks around to see if in a parallel universe). Here we sit with the best economy, economic opportunity and upward mobility in 21 to 32 years with record low minority unemployment rates, best increase in take home pay in 32 years, highest retirement account values ever and Republicans hate America? I wonder if these losers have brainwashed themselves into believing their own made up BS or if they've so taken to recreational product so extensively that they've created this altered state of reality with which they live? Every elected Democrat is literally on the wrong side of American history by virtue of having completely opposed the entire Trump agenda that's responsible for this prosperity and still they lie and they slander. You'd at least think they'd get quite for a while but apparently, they think you (or at least those who consume their crap) are stupid.
Are Democrats Becoming More Like Republicans? Ezra Klein, Vox
Hot Take: Back to that altered state of reality thing for a minute. But if you think about it long enough the answer actually could be yes. They suck at what they do much the way that Republicans did/do minus Trump's leadership to actually get stuff done.
Until Tomorrow...
