Hot – Confirmation: Local Boy Died From The Flu

Preliminary tests from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office confirms that 12-year old Dylan Winnik of suburban West Palm Beach did, in fact, die from Influenza B.  The child passed away suddenly last week, just a few days after first suffering from what his family thought was a cold, even attending Okeeheelee Middle School Last Monday, with a fever.  Dylan was a seventh grader and parents of students at the school are concerned.  The school district and health officials last week stressed that there is no flu outbreak at Okeeheelee. 

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —  Influenza B killed 12-year-old Dylan Winnik from West Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner.

Relatives told CBS12 on Friday that authorities confirmed to them Dylan Winnik died from the flu.

Sergio Winnik said that his son, Dylan Winnik, went to school, and a birthday party on January 19, and came home with a fever.

Meanwhile, the Palm Beach County School District this morning launched an online education campaign called “Teach the Flu a Lesson.”  It offers parents things they can do daily to help prevent the flu from spreading.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Schools are on high alert after the death of a West Palm Beach middle school student, his passing now officially linked to the flu.

Hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects for Dylan Winnik.

The medical examiner confined he died from influenza B, a sudden and aggressive flu strain.
