Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for March 22nd

Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for March 22nd

Bottom Line: These are the daily doses of nonsense in the media and my hot takes on them...

  • Stoneman Douglas teen's lawyer: 'I don’t blame a kid for taking a weapon to school these days' - Sun Sentinel

Excerpt: A Marjory Stoneman Douglas student accused of bringing a knife to school was ordered held on $12,500 bond Wednesday after her lawyer called it “out of control” and “ridiculous” that prosecutors sought her jailed on stiffer conditions.

Hot Take: I don't even exactly know where to go with that line of thought. Potentially absurd. Yeah. But aside from the fact we don't want to have armed students in schools, if we're being honest with ourselves for a moment...

Hot Take: I don't know what's worse. That this is perpetuated as a serious story in the first place, or that we're supposed to be legitimately disturbed by it. Hillary Clinton literally handed Vladimir Putin a "reset" button (aside from the Uranium One scandal - details) but Trump saying congratulations to the guy is an outrage? I truly feel like a live in a parallel universe that's a parody of the real world at times these days.

  • Can't Stand Victim Culture? Join It. Molly Roberts, Washington Post

Hot Take: It sounds simple on the surface. I've actually tried it a couple of times to see if I could embrace the benefits of being a victim. The problem is if you're wired to do anything constructive with your life it doesn't work. If you're wired for success you're used to being confronted with obstacles and doing whatever you can to break through them. It's not intuitive to perceive obstacles, stop and collaborate with others who'd rather spend time attempting to reveal in victim-hood rather than doing something constructive.

Until tomorrow...
