Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for April 6th - Burning Lake O'
Bottom Line: These are the daily doses of nonsense in the media and my hot takes on them...
Why it’s so crucial to burn Lake Okeechobee - Palm Beach Post
Excerpt: The fire burned in a mosaic on Lake Okeechobee on Wednesday, meandering around damp areas to find the dried grasses and fuel-rich mats of dead vegetation exposed when the freshwater receded this dry season.
An ambitious 5,000-acre scar was the day’s goal — a prescribed effort to thwart an arsonist’s disorderly flare ups and encourage an explosion of new flora and fauna on the reborn Earth below.
Hot take: Look, I get the concept here but am I the only one who finds it ironic that we're deliberately burning brush around Lake O' to protect it from arsonists? Also, am I also the only one who wonders why we constantly manipulate nature to theoretically protect nature?
Have Republicans Won Their War on Science? Emily Atkin, The New Republic
Excerpt: The so-called war on science isn’t quite as broad as that phrase implies. It’s really a war on one particular scientific fact: that fossil fuels are a threat to public health.
Hot take: What I love most about this this hit piece on the EPA is that "science" long ago discovered that many natural energy sources referred to as "fossil fuels" aren't actually derived from fossils (animals or plants). Maybe that's what they meant... The Republican war on bunk science - which btw, shouldn't be a partisan thing. 😉
Until Monday...
