The President's approval and our view of the direction of the country for May 11th
Bottom Line: This is a weekly story to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President and our view of the direction of the country. First here's the high point, low point and current ratings for President Trump...
Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval and 59% disapproval: -22% (8/4/17)
Trump highest approval ratings 45% approval and 43% disapproval +2% (1/27/17):
Trump's current ratings: 44% approval and 52% disapproval: -8%
A week after President Trump tied his highest average approval rating and having his best overall rating in just over a year – he gave back a bit this week – dropping a point on his approval and disapproval rating. Still, this week's update remains the second best over the past year and all of this info is prior to the developments in North Korea.
Also, as I've been tracking for many months... The more likely someone is to vote, the higher the President's overall approval rating.
With adult only samples his rating over the past week averaged: 41%
Registered voters: 44%
Likely voters: 48%
Looking at the direction of the country this week we're seeing surging optimism...
Where we stood on Inauguration Day:
Right Direction: 30%
Wrong Track: 59%
Net: -29%
Last Week:
Right Direction: 38%
Wrong Track: 54%
Net: -16%
And Today:
Right Direction: 41%
Wrong Track: 52%
Net: -11%
Change: +18% under Trump & +5% over the previous update.
For the fourth consecutive week we're seeing more optimism on the overall direction of the country. Moreover, there are only two times in the previous nine years that we've been as optimistic as we are right now (March of last year and December of 2012 being the other two)! This also doesn't factor in the NOKO hostage developments. Good stuff... Until next week.
