The President's approval and our view of the direction of the country for May 18th
Bottom Line: This is a weekly story to get a reality/temperature check regarding what's really going on with public opinion of the President and our view of the direction of the country. First here's the high point, low point and current ratings for President Trump...
Trump's lowest ratings: 37% approval and 59% disapproval: -22% (8/4/17)
Trump highest approval ratings 45% approval and 43% disapproval +2% (1/27/17):
Trump's current ratings: 45% approval and 52% disapproval: -7%
Another week and another bump up for President Trump's average approval rating. Trump gained a point on his approval rating this week, equaling the high point in his Presidency. With a net approval rating at –7%, this is the best overall average he's had since May 3rd of 2017. We're continuing to see the positive economy and developments on foreign policy buying the President's approval.
Also, as I've been tracking for many months... The more likely someone is to vote, the higher the President's overall approval rating.
With adult only samples his rating over the past week averaged: 43%
Registered voters: 45%
Likely voters: 49%
Looking at the direction of the country this week we're seeing surging optimism...
Where we stood on Inauguration Day:
Right Direction: 30%
Wrong Track: 59%
Right Direction: 41%
Wrong Track: 52%
Right Direction: 40%
Wrong Track: 52%
Change: +17% under Trump & -1% over the previous update.
The four-week winning streak has been broken as we dropped a point this week but this is still the fourth most optimistic we've been in the past nine years. Until next week...
