Hysterical Headlines for August 23rd – The lowest common denominator – what News media has in common with MTV
Bottom Line: Your daily doses of nonsense in the media and my takes on them...
Will Miami’s black community elect Florida’s first out gay African-American lawmaker? - Miami Herald
Hot Take: Will those who continue to perpetuate stories like this actually ever listen to Dr. King and judge someone by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin or who they have sex with as the case now happens to be? Or has the level of thoughtfulness and intelligent discourse reached the point to where the question is actually if you’re going to simply vote for the black gay guy or not? Maybe, I don’t want the answer to that question... My expectations for intelligent discourse in politics are low these days but still not that low.
MTV VMA ratings hit an all-time low. Here's how to put the viewership number in perspective. - Sun Sentinel
Excerpt: Look at it this way: this year’s viewership number is close to the combined populations of Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Hot Take: In 2016 more Republicans were elected top to bottom in the US than at any time since the 1920’s. The news media has responded with 91% negative coverage of the Trump administration. Coming into 2016 the NFL was enjoying record viewership. Then Kaepernick and his merry band of ignorant ingrates happened and has been allowed to fester. The NFL has lost 20% of its viewers since. And awards show after awards show features entertainers with fake names that smear the views of about half of Americans that are responsible for the millions these fools make. See a trend here?
Clearly what all of these entities have in common is a greater desire to appease a political base that has nothing to do with the product they’re delivering in the first place. Fascinating to watch albeit frustrating to see.
Until Tomorrow...
