South Florida media joins the resistance & ignores Dr. King’s message
Bottom Line: Your daily doses of nonsense in the media and my takes on them...
Excerpt: Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), a gubernatorial nominee who recently was accused of using racially tinged language, spoke four times at conferences organized by a conservative activist who has said that African Americans owe their freedom to white people and that the country’s “only serious race war” is against whites.
DeSantis, elected to represent north-central Florida in 2012, appeared at the David Horowitz Freedom Center conferences in Palm Beach, Fla., and Charleston, S.C., in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
At the group’s annual Restoration Weekend conferences, hundreds of people gather to hear right-wing provocateurs such as Stephen K. Bannon, Milo Yiannopoulos and Sebastian Gorka sound off on multiculturalism, radical Islam, free speech on college campuses and other issues.
The Florida gubernatorial campaign is one of the marquee races of 2018, pitting DeSantis, a Trump acolyte and lawyer in the Navy Reserve, against Andrew Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, who would become the state’s first African American governor.
Hot Take: You’ve got to be kidding me. Now Ron DeSantis is responsible for what other people have said that you think is controversial? Not what he said, but others? This was a hit piece first advanced by the Washington Post picked up by the Sun Sentinel (and was right above an opinion piece that was a hit on Rick Scott). What we’re seeing is the evolution of our local media to mirror what we’ve seen on the national stage for the past couple of years. Those with their eyes open have long been able to see the left lean of South Florida media outlets. Once upon a time it was mostly innocent, in many cases simply the left leaning views of most in the industry, washing through in coverage.
No longer. Just as we’ve seen networks like CNN and the NBC networks, which used to at least to attempt to appear objective, embrace hard left reporting as the standard – we're seeing it permeate in local media like never before. We’re now seeing local news media perpetuating transparent hit pieces that are baseless mirroring much of the national media. And here’s the irony. As they attempt to continue the slanderous campaign against DeSantis alive look at how they’re doing it: DeSantis, a Trump acolyte and lawyer in the Navy Reserve, against Andrew Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, who would become the state’s first African American governor.
Who’s attempting to make this about race? It isn’t DeSantis. Once again, the race baiters, who ignore Dr. King’s message are those in news media attempting to take out an American Hero in Ron DeSantis who served Seal Team One and is a Bronze Star and Iraq Campaign medal recipient. Something I’ve never once seen reported in any local media coverage of Ron.
