Smart Speakers reach critical mass faster than any consumer technology

Bottom Line: The era of big brother is alive and well. Truth is in the computing age it’s always been here but never quite like it is today. From PC’s to mobile devices to smart speakers the amount of technology we’ve introduced into our lives has never been greater and the holidays helped smart speakers reach critical mass quicker than any new consumer technology before.

The average adult already currently owns a PC (73%), a tablet (53%) and smart phone (77%). We’re quickly ready to add a smart speaker to that list. Coming out of holidays 53 million households, or 42% of homes in the US, now have an Alexa or Google Home smart speaker. That’s up 78% from a year ago. Interestingly, the concerns about big brother have been quickly brushed aside by the ease with which they work. Speaking from first-hand experience – my wife Ashley said there was no way one of those would make its way into our home. That lasted until she was gifted one by her company last summer and immediately fell in love with it. That’s the thing. They do work really well. So, fight it now if you’re inclined but just as there might have been a time you didn’t envision owning a PC, or a tablet or a smart phone...It’s likely only a matter of time and which one you eventually go with...
