Florida Legislative Session recap – Highlights from Tallahassee

Bottom Line: I’m doing a daily recap of the some of the notable developments from Florida’s session. So, let’s get to it. On Monday there was...

  • The State Senate Agriculture Committee unanimously approved a bill that’d create a State Hemp Program and would cap application fees to grow hemp at $500. It has one more Senate Committee to clear before it’d go to a full vote
  • A Senate Bill allowing for the re-importation of Canadian drugs into Florida passed the Health Policy Committee on an 8-2 vote
  • A distracted driving bill advanced in the Senate Judiciary Committee that’d make it easier for law enforcement to pull you over for distracted driving & would enable law enforcement to obtain communications records from mobile devices in the event of an accident that causes harm to others – it advanced to the Senate rules committee
  • Legislation cleared a Senate committee that’d limit increases on Citizens property insurance rates to 5% per year through 2024 cleared the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee (Miami-Dade & Monroe would benefit most if passed)
