Florida's recap – Highlights from around the state

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the notable developments from Florida’s session and news from around the state...

  • The state Senate has changed it health-care proposals to reflect what already passed in the House that’d put an end to the “Certificate of need process” limiting ownership of hospitals, hospices and nursing homes. The net effect should this pass would likely be more of all of these facilities state-wide
  • The “Florida First Step Act” is advancing to the full Senate that’d overhaul criminal justice measures across the state. This includes raising the threshold for felony theft to $750 and lowering the penalties for first time offenders among other reforms aimed to provide second chances and lower prison populations
  • The “Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act” that’d provide specific female hygiene products to incarcerated women is on track in both the House and Senate to pass
