Florida's recap – Highlights from around the state

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the notable developments from Florida’s session and news from around the state...

  • The State Senate passed a version of “Sanctuary Cities” reform that was different than the House version setting up a late session showdown in both chambers to reconcile the proposals
  • The state House and Senate are advancing a bill that extends the “safe space”, in which political operatives can’t intervene with those seeking to vote, from 100 to 150 feet
  • The Senate advanced the bill that’d end Florida’s Constitution Revision Commission, the House is taking it back up this week. If it passes it’d be on our 2020 ballots & would require 60% support to end it
  • Governor DeSantis met with Seminole leaders on Friday to discuss the possibility to renegotiate the Seminole Compact to enable sports betting in Florida and to extend the Seminole’s existing compact timeline – It's unclear if anything can be agreed to and accomplished in this session.
