Florida's recap – Highlights from around the state - May 7th

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

With the dust settling on the state session here’s the scorecard for what happened and what emerged from the past two months in Tallahassee...

  • 3,491 bills proposed
  • 1,861 bills filed/considered
  • 195 passed
  • 171 appear to have clear support from Governor Desantis

For the 2nd straight year more than 3,000 bills were proposed and fewer than 200 passed. In other words, only about 5% of what’s put to paper ever makes it across the finish line. There are still some questions about what Governor DeSantis will veto – including line-item vetoes that have been promised in the state budget. In a separate three-part story today, I’ve outlined what Governor DeSantis’s priorities were coming into the state session and how those priorities fared in the session.
