Uber’s ratings now go both ways

Bottom Line: Users of Uber are familiar with the driver rating system. It collects feedback from customers and drivers. Until now ratings that were below the curve for drivers resulted in getting booted from Uber’s ride sharing network. Going forward that goes for you too. As a passenger. Uber’s announced a new and seemingly fluid strategy of not accepting customers that drivers don’t rate well.

According to Uber’s announcement, riders will be banned that have a significantly below average rating. So, what’s average, or most specifically significantly below average? Good question we still don’t know but here’s the thing. Its dynamic based on where you are... In other words, Uber will use a standard cutoff in every market. If you’re below that level, you’ll not be able to use the service. But that rating and the cutoff will be different in every location. Fox example, the expression a “New York hello”, exists for a reason. You might imagine that the average expectation and ratings for passengers in New York might vary a bit from say Topeka.

The plan comes from Uber’s safety brand and initiative director. This as increased focus is being placed on driver safety in the wake of rising accounts of misconduct and even violence against ride-sharing drivers have been reported. So, you’ll have to behave going forward if you want to continue to use the service. Though the extent to which you have to be have would appear to be a bit subjective...
