Want a better life? Spend two hours a week outside

Bottom Line: No twisting of my arm needed here. A comprehensive study of one’s well being as it pertains to nature was just completed and the results are absolutely conclusive. The average person who spends at least two hours in nature a week is better off...in every measured way.

The University of Exeter Study of 20,000 people found that people who spend at least 120 minutes enjoying nature per week:

  • Have significantly better physical health
  • Better psychological well being

And here’s the next great thing. It applied to every race. Every age. Both genders. Regardless of one’s socioeconomic status. It doesn’t get more conclusive than these outcomes. And it makes perfect sense. As humans on this planet, we were completely connected to nature as a means of living and survival until fairly recent times. That’s assuming that you even need an excuse to enjoy nature more. For most of us, it’s a key reason we live in South Florida. When I moved down here about 14 years ago, the ability to enjoy yourself outdoors twelve months a year, is what kept me down here. If I could spend two hours in nature per day – I'd do it. But if nothing else, we should all make sure we work in two hours per week.
