  • Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency for Florida in advance of Hurricane Dorian’s impact. Quoting the Governor: “Every Florida resident should have seven days of supplies, including food, water and medicine, and should have a plan in case of disaster.”
  • Citing the National Hurricane Center’s current guidance: All indications are that by this Labor Day weekend,a powerful hurricane will be near or over the Florida peninsula. Additionally, the NHC’s guidance continues with the following: The risk of dangerous storm surge and hurricane-force winds later this week and this weekend continues to increase in the central and north western Bahamas and along the Florida east coast, although itis too soon to determine where these hazards will occur. Residents in these areas should ensure they have their hurricane plan in place and not focus on the exact forecast track of Dorian's center.
  • Based on the National Hurricane Center’s wind probability chart, the entire east coast of Florida has a greater than 50% chance of at least experiencing tropical storm force conditions from Dorian.
  • Governor DeSantis announced the selection of three new members to Florida’s Civil Rights Hall of Fame. Daniel Webster Perkins, one of Florida’s first black attorney's, Dr. Charles Ullman Smith one-time Dean of Graduate Studies at FAMU and Henry James Thomas, an original Freedom Riderand honored Army veteran. 
  • The MDX approved a year end rebate of 30% for drivers who pay $150 or more in tolls in 2019
