Weekly political update – Where news & perceptions meet reality

Bottom Line: This is your weekly reality check. What's really going on with public opinion of the president and our view of the direction of the country? Here it is...

  • Trump's lowest rating: 37% approval (8/4/17)
  • Trump highest approval rating: 46% approval (9/19/19)
  • Trump's current rating: 46% approval

As the 2020 Democrats continue to pursue impeachment against President Trump (and now Brett Kavanaugh as well), the average American continues to benefit from record low minority unemployment, record high wages and record opportunity in the workforce. Not to mention stocks are essentially sitting at record highs as well leading to record high retirement account balances. Speaking of records, that’s reflected in President Trump’s average approval rating this week. It’s a new record high for his administration at 46%. As we close in on being about thirteen months away from the next election, President Trump is now appealing to more potential voters than supported him on Election Day 2016.

It’s been the case throughout his term thus far, that the more informed and engaged someone is politically, the more likely they are to approve of President Trump. That remains the case once again this week.

  • Adult only samples averaged: N/A
  • Registered voters: 44%
  • Likely voters: 51%

What you never hear reported are the ratings of the Democratic leaders opposing him. Let’s just say they’d need a huge push of support to simply catch President Trump’s approval ratings. Here’s the latest...

  • Pelosi: 34%
  • Schumer: 27%

Who doesn’t want more of them in their lives, right? Geez, even about half of Democrats don’t approve of those two.

Looking at the direction of the country this week...

Where we stood on Inauguration Day:

  • Right Direction: 30%

Today:

  • Right Direction: 38%

Overall, we’re 8% collectively more optimistic than we were during the Obama administration.
