  • The average rent rate in South Florida rose just 1.8% in the third quarter, the lowest year-over-year increase since the end of the Great Recession. The average rent stands at $1,648 a month according to the firm Berkadia. This marks the second consecutive year that incomes in south Florida are growing at a faster rate than rent rates. 
  • After another year of population decline in traditional public schools in Broward, the School District is considering potential plans to close and merge several schools throughout the district.The schools with the lowest enrollment rates are elementary and middle schools as parents have opted increasingly for charter and private schools.
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is seeking public comment on a new 209-page plan to ensure Florida’s black bear population stays above 3,000 over the next 10-years. Currently the population is estimated to be about 4,000 but increasing interactions with people are threatening populations.A new plan is set to voted on in December to replace the existing one which has been in force since 2012. Proposed items include use of bear resistant trash containers and modified bridges and roads to allow for easier crossings.
