  • A 15-foot great white shark originally tagged in Nova Scotia in September, registered in Myrtle Beach October 12th and is now in the Florida Keys. In recent years a migration from the north-east through the Florida straits for whites has been established.
  • The invasive and toxic Bufo toad has been spotted in record numbers from Boca through Vero Beach according to the Florida, Fish and Wildlife Commission. The toads have been pushing native toad species out of the area, are often eating the same foods as outdoor pets and have the potential to kill animals. The toxins from licking or biting the toad can kill animals within 15 minutes. If your pet comes in contact with a toad you’re instructed to rinse its mouth for ten minutes.
  • Gas prices are averaging 30 cents gallon less than a year ago heading into the November travel season after decreasing by an average of ten cents per gallon statewide over the past week. The state wide average is now down to $2.36.
  • Florida’s Insurance Commissioner is pushing for a decrease in worker’s compensation rates for employers that could be 7.5% lower in 2020 over current rates. Despite much higher employment levels, workers compensation claims have dropped by over 5 million annually in Florida since 2010.
