Florida’s well represented, according to us

Bottom Line: As we think about Thanksgiving and what we’re truly thankful for... I seriously doubt many will be thankful for the state politics today. But there’s a vast difference between frustration generally at how politics is playing out and our thoughts about our own politicians. Morning Consult conducts ongoing approval polling of governors and senators.Taking a peek at what we currently think of those three politicians – it's clear we think we’re well represented.

Here are the net approval ratings for Senators Rubio and Scott:

  • Rubio: +13%
  • Scott: +11%

And for Governor DeSantis:

  • DeSantis: +36%

Governor DeSantis’s rating is nearing historic territory, but Senators Rubio and Scott are both also sporting good approval ratings and are at their highest approval during the current congress. In other words, despite general angst and frustration about the state of Washington politics, Floridians are increasingly, and generally, pleased with how Rubio and Scott are going about their business. Something to be mindful of is the historic rate of judicial confirmations the senate is and has been confirming during the Trump administration. This has been the most effective role of each of these senators this year as President Trump is closing in on 180 federal judicial confirmations. In fact, we had a front row seat recently with DeSantis appointed Florida Supreme Court Justices Logoa and Luck, being confirmed by the Senate to the 11th US Circuit Court of appeals.

Pending new appointments by Governor DeSantis to Florida’s Supreme Court, in 2019 Florida’s Supreme Court will have flipped from liberal to constitutional conservative – in addition to the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals, which is Florida’s federal appeals court. The remaking of the entire state and federal judicial environment for Florida and our region is an under-told success story for the Trump administration and Florida’s senators.
