- Today, the 2nd anniversary of the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, is a day of remembrance and service in Parkland and Coral Springs. The Broward School District will honor a moment of silence at 10:17 and is providing the opportunity for students and staff to assist in community projects throughout the day.
- A review of the Stoneman Douglas Safety Act, enacted within three weeks of the attack, shows just over 3,500 instances in which authorities have used the “Red Flag” provision of the law to remove firearms from those determined to be a potential threat.
- The Florida House voted to move the Department of Energy out from under the Department of Agriculture and Commissioner Nikki Fried. Under the House plan the Department of Environmental Protection would have oversight. It’s not clear if the Senate will go along with the House plan but if they do it’d move the office back to where it was prior to 2011.
- The House passed a budget which is $1.5 billion below the Senate’s previously approved budget which will lead to conference hearing set to begin next week. The tag of the House plan is more closely aligned with Governor DeSantis’s proposed tag.
- Movers in Thursday’s session included tort reform on attorney’s fees and the banning of shark fin sales...
- NOAA has joined the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s effort to catch the person or people responsible for the stabbing and shooting deaths of dolphins on Florida’s gulf coast.An additional $20,000 award is being offered to match the state’s effort for information leading to an arrest or arrests.
