- Governor DeSantis announced the Salute our Soldiers Military Housing Loan Program which rolls out March 2nd. The $8 million program will provide down payment and closing costs assistance to veterans which is forgiven after five years in the home. The program will be administered by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
- Florida led the country in new jobs within the solar industry – adding 1,843 in 2019. Florida’s currently ranked as the state with the most growth potential within the solar industry. Currently only 1.1% of Florida’s power is derived from solar. FPL alone intends to increase its solar footprint to 20% by 2030.
- AG Ashley Moody announced Florida has joined the 38 state JUUL investigation into marketing practices alleged to targeted minors. She stated Florida has an epidemic of underage vaping.
- Movers in Tuesday’s session included “Alyssa’s Law” for a universal panic alert system for schools and an expanded school voucher program.
- On back of the latest sewage spill in Fort Lauderdale, the City has adopted a new fertilizer ordinance, creating a summer blackout period for home and commercial use and tasking code enforcement to enforce the new policy.
