There have been no cases of coronavirus in Florida, but local schools are trying to get ahead of the illness.

The Palm Beach County School District issued a statement yesterday that said in part it is actively monitoring developments related to the illness, reviewing response plans in full compliance with the CDC and the Florida Department of Health.

The district says it has a long-standing professional relationship with the health department and will work in close collaboration with all public health officials and governmental agencies throughout the state to provide guidance, promote awareness and initiate response actions as needed.

The school board will be updated on the District's Infection Disease Plan during its next meeting March 4th and the public is welcome.

Meanwhile, Florida Atlantic University has suspended its Exchange and Study Abroad programs with China and South Korea until further notice.

Florida International University is doing the same thing and asking students and faculty who recently traveled to a number of countries to quarantine themselves at home and avoid contact with others for 14 days. That's the incubation period for coronavirus.
