- Governor DeSantis issued an official “Safer At Home” order for Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties through at least mid-April. The governor also provided a timeline that potentially will extend current emergency measures in place through mid-May. This after scientific modeling suggests the virus may peak in early May. DeSantis also was able to secure recently FDA approved medicine to treat COVID-19 from Israeli provider Teva pharmaceuticals.
- The governor also said it’s his desire to have all Holland America cruise passengers treated offshore rather than having the vessels with ill passengers dock at Port Everglades and have passengers cared for in Broward.
- DeSantis also signed an executive order allowing retired state law enforcement and health care professionals to return to work to meet the state’s needs during the coronavirus crisis.
- Palm Beach County joins all other South Florida counties in virtual education today, as the rest of South Florida began yesterday. It’s likely the school year will conclude with remote learning.
- Florida Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz likened the private market for protective masks to a Ponzi scheme as the state is often competing for resources that aren’t available as presented. Jared is seeking direct sales to states from manufactures.
