  • Governor DeSantis has issued an executive action suspending all foreclosures and evictions due to non-payment in Florida for a minimum of 45 days. Evictions due to non-financial considerations may still move forward.
  • DeSantis stated he won’t issue clemency to prisoners as governments in California and Ohio have done. Quoting DeSantis: I don’t see how in a time of pandemic where people are on edge already(how) releasing felons in society would make a whole lot of sense.
  • The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has resorted to filling out paper applications as the state’s website continues to fail under the pressure of record unemployment filings. Audit reports dating back to 2015 showed warnings that the site might have issues processing high numbers of claims. State Senator Joe Gruters, whose mother has been unable to file for unemployment after being laid off two weeks ago, said “someone should go to jail” over the failures. 
  • Holland America’s Zaandam and Rotterdam both were allowed to dock at Port Everglades with the 49 Floridians leaving the ship first and all passengers set to disembark today. Sick passengers are being taken to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale & Larkin Community Hospital in Miami.
