Coronavirus in Florida – April 6th Update
Bottom Line: We had 3,342 new cases and 77 deaths in Florida over the weekend. If you’re looking for silver linings, Florida improved to 7th in the country in total cases and remained 9th in deaths despite being the third most populous state. More than 100,000 Floridians have been tested for COVID-19. Florida’s test rate per population exceeds the US average considerably, illustrating the state has been aggressive and more effective than most in the rollout of testing. We’re performing far better than most states on a relative basis.
The range in age for positive tests in our state - infants to 103. Obviously, it can find its way to anyone. More than half of all of Florida’s cases currently are in the tri-county area with Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach having the most cases in the state in that order.

- 12,350 cases – 221 deaths
Here’s the count in South Florida right now...
- Broward: 1,886
- Miami-Dade: 4,146
- Palm Beach: 1,000
We continue to see a high rate of positive test results in Florida. To date nearly 11% of all tests for COVID-19 have come back positive. The further into testing we go,the more likely the newest diagnosed cases are new cases – especially with the high positive test rate. This reinforces the importance of adhering to the warnings of public officials including social distancing and safer-at-home declarations. The highest concentration of cases is coming from those between the ages of 45-54.
