- More than 100,000 Floridians have been tested for COVID-19. Florida’s test rate per population exceeds the US average considerably, illustrating the state has been aggressive and more effective than most in the rollout of testing.
- Google data tracking mobile phone locations has shown Floridians are moving outside of home 50% less than a month ago. Unsurprisingly travel to retail locations, including restaurants, has dropped the most. Time spent at home is up in every county as Floridians are generally adhering to the orders of public officials.
- We lost two members of law enforcement to COVID-19 over the weekend. In Broward, Deputy Shannon Bennett (pictured) became the first Florida law enforcement official to die in the line of duty due to contracting the coronavirus. Shannon was only 39 illustrating the threat the virus still poses to younger adults. Similarly, on Saturday, 38-year-old Palm Beach County Sergeant Jose Diaz Ayala died due to the virus. Sergeant Diaz Ayala was battling other medical issues prior to contracting COVID-19.
- BP is offering up to 50 cents per gallon off gas for first responders, including healthcare workers, during the pandemic. To obtain the discount, you need to register online here.
- State Emergency Director Jared Moskowitz said Florida will have the needed hospital beds and ventilators for the peak of the coronavirus in Florida. He’s still seeking additional N95 masks.
