- Today is the day public parks, golf courses and boat ramps open across South Florida. Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties are all allowing access to these open public spaces for the first time since mid-March.
- Governor DeSantis met with President Trump yesterday and said he’d have an announcement about Florida’s next steps to re-open today. His stay-at-home order expires tomorrow and it’s expected much of the state will begin a phase 1 reopening.
- The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has launched a portal for those who’ve been deemed “ineligible” to use for more information - including applying for federal benefits even if one may not be eligible for state benefits. This includes gig workers, self-employed and freelancers.
- The University of Florida announced they’ll been holding virtual graduation ceremonies for this semester’s graduating class. This mirrors the plans South Florida’s school districts have put in play of high school graduates.
- The Florida public university system has asked the Florida Board of Governors to temporarily suspend the use of ACT and SAT scores for students applying to schools for the 2021 school year. This is due to the inability of many students to complete those tests due to the coronavirus. The Board will take up the request May 5th.
