- With Florida starting its phase one reopening Monday, unemployed Floridians will need to resume confirming every two weeks that they are still unemployed to continue to receive benefits starting May 9th. The Governor’s emergency declaration for Florida will end on May 8th.
- A lawsuit brought about by the Young Americans for Liberty against Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried alleges her office has infringed on constitutional rights. In March Nikki stated there would be delays in processing concealed carry permits due to the pandemic. The complaint from YAL revealed her office has actually suspended processing online applications altogether, with no online applications having been processed since March 20th.
- U.S. District Judge Marica Cooke, out of Miami, has ordered the release of ICE detainees at three Florida detainment facilities due to COVID-19 concerns. She cited “cruel and unusual punishment” as the rational suggesting masks and soap wasn’t plentiful enough.
- Governor DeSantis’s push for sports leagues to resume, primarily playing in Florida, may be about to come to fruition. In addition to the recent WWE and UFC announcements, NASCAR is set to resume races this month. Additionally, the NBA is considering a plan to play at the Walt Disney World complex and two of the three Major League Baseball plans being evaluated include Florida playing a central role for at least a third of the league.
