- Governor DeSantis is set to extend the moratorium on foreclosures and evictions through the end of May. The current executive order is currently set to expire May 17th but with Broward and Miami Dade still not in phase one reopening and issues with the state’s unemployment system further complicating those most impacted from having any available funds, DeSantis announced he will extend the moratorium through at least May.
- The Governor renewed his appeal for a return of professional sports using Florida as a base of operations to begin to reopen. Citing DeSantis: All professional sports are welcome here for practicing and playing.
- Florida has a new designated invasive species & it’s another reptile. The Argentine black and white tegu. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission there are established breeding populations in Hillsborough and Miami-Dade. The FWC believes the new populations occurred through escapes or intentional pet releases. The tegus prey on the nests of other animals including alligators, crocodiles and turtles. - The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has now processed over 1 million claims with 1.2 million, or 63% of all unemployment claims received during the pandemic having been processed. 98% of all eligible processed claims have now been paid. This is the highest percentage of claims processed and paid since the pandemic began.
