Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. 

  • The state approved eight additional counties for vacation rentals on Thursday. 26 of Florida’s 67 counties have now been approved, including Collier county in Southwest Florida. Broward, Miami Dade and Palm Beach counties have not submitted requests to the state to be considered as of yet.
  • The Republican Party of Florida joined the national party in requesting a lawsuit brought against Governor DeSantis pertaining to voting deadlines be thrown out. The Democrat Super PACS have sued to attempt to accept mailed in ballots past the state’s deadlines and to allow for ballot harvesting, the process of 3rd parties collecting ballots. 
  • The DEO has confirmed that a “data security incident” has potentially compromised the identity of 98 individuals who’ve filed for unemployment. In the breach, full information including Social Security numbers were compromised. The state said they’ve contacted the 98 who were potential victims and aren't aware of ongoing issues.
  • Universal Orlando has been greenlighted for a soft reopening starting June 1st which will culminate in a reopening for the public starting June 5th. Once reopen temperature checks of all employees and visitors will take place daily, virtual lines will be used and masks will be required.
