- Today is Phase Two reopening day for 64 of Florida’s 67 counties with Broward, Miami Dade and Palm Beach Counties once again sitting it out. The reopening of movie theaters and bars at up to 50% capacity with full capacity outdoor seating.
- While reopening is taking place from the pandemic the news regarding the virus is less than ideal. On Wednesday, Florida had its second highest day for new diagnosed cases, on Thursday – with 1,419 new cases reported – we had our highest daily count.
- The proposed Constitutional amendment advanced by Ban Assault Weapons Now, which failed to collect enough signatures to appear on Florida’s 2020 ballot, also failed in its effort to appear on 2022 ballots. The Florida Supreme Court rejected the language advanced saying it would mislead voters.The state opposed the approval of the proposed amendment.
- A day after the MLS agreed to host a tournament with all 26 teams in Orlando, the NBA announced a 22 team eight game season will be played in Orlando to determine playoff teams with the playoffs also to be played in Orlando. Governor DeSantis said the State is “All in” for the rebooting of sports leagues.
- South Florida’s preliminary property tax values are in for from all property appraisers' offices for 2019. Property values are estimated to have risen by 6.1% in Broward, 4.6% in Miami-Dade and 5.5% in Palm Beach County. These numbers will translate into higher property tax bills for South Floridians as notices are finalized this summer.
