- Jacksonville is now reportedly the front-runner for the Republican National Convention. First reported by the Washington Post, it’s believed the convention will be moved after North Carolina’s governor wouldn’t ensure the convention would be allowed to included attendees. Governor DeSantis and Jacksonville mayor Lenny Curry have said they’d being willing to host the convention.
- The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is now issuing bi-weekly payments for those receiving unemployment benefits. This is the typical schedule for benefits, however during the height of the pandemic the DEO had been making weekly payments.
- Broward announced the reopening of all casinos on Friday. This includes the Hard Rock and Seminole Classic Casinos. At the Seminole casinos Temperature checks will take place at the door and all guests will be required to wear masks. Masks will be provided to guests who don’t have them.
- Governor DeSantis made four judicial appointments placing new judges in the 1st District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee, the 4th District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach, the 1st Circuit Court in Tallahassee and the Manatee County Court.
- Mike Kimmel, aka the Python Cowboy, caught a potential record setting 17+foot, 150-pound female python. To date the South Florida Water Management District says the python elimination program has removed 2,970 pythons. The current record holder is 17 feet five inches.
