Martin County Schools To Start On Schedule

Students in Martin County will begin the school year on time.

The county school board Tuesday night voted 4 to 1 for classes to begin August 11, after considering a postponement to the start of the school year.

Superintendent Laurie Gaylord last week recommended delaying it by two weeks and that recommendation was tentatively approved by the board, pending approval of the proposed calendar by the Martin County Education Association. No agreement was reached with the teachers union, so the school year will proceed based on the original calendar.

Parents have a choice in Martin County to either send their kids to campus or engage in remote learning.
