  • During a second emergency hearing regarding the FEA’s lawsuit attempting to prevent any classroom education in Florida this fall, the state argued for the case to be dismissed or transferred from Miami-Dade to Leon County. Leon County is where state cases have historically been decided, the FEA filed the suit in Miami-Dade hoping for a quick favorable ruling. The judge is set to transfer the case to Leon County. In a statement the FEA said: (Schools reopening) One more example of an administration dead set on rushing kids and school employees back onto physical campuses no matter what the science says. Florida’s Surgeon General, The US Surgeon General, FDA Commissioner and Director’s of the CDC and National Institutes for Health have all stated the greater public health risk is to not resume classroom education asap.
  • Florida sales tax holiday is underway today through Sunday. No sales tax on clothing purchases of $60 or less per item, school supplies totaling $15 or less or the first $1000 for computers and accessories.
  • The cruise industry had canceled all cruises through at least October. This follows the recent move by Norwegian and expands an industrywide cancellation of cruises which extends a month longer than the current federal mandate.
  • Florida’s 14-day quarantine order for visitors of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York has been lifted by Governor DeSantis. However, Floridians traveling to those states will still be subjected to a 14-day quarantine.
  • Most of Florida’s nursing homes will soon have rapid COVID-19 tests. As part of a federal initiative to protect nursing homes, the Agency for Health Care Administration is prioritizing point of care facilities for future shipments of rapid tests. 471 of Florida’s near 700 nursing homes will receive the tests over the next two weeks.
