Back To School For Martin County Kids

Kids are headed back to class in Martin County on Tuesday.

Like the other Treasure Coast counties, which are opening later, parents have a choice between sending their kids to campus and keeping them home.

The school district says about 40 percent of its student body will not be attending in person, choosing to do remote-learning through live streaming from teachers' classrooms.

The estimated 60 percent of students showing up on campus will need to wear masks, as will school staff and guests.

Two clinics will operate at each school; one for minor first aid and another for students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Schools will have one-way hallways, staggered lunch schedules, social distancing and desks six feet apart.

The district also has a plan in place to send entire classes home for two weeks of remote-learning if a student gets sick with the virus. The entire school would do so if there are 12 or more positive cases per 100 people at a school.
