  • With 3,200 new COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday – Florida's weekly moving average of cases dropped again – remaining at the lowest level since June 23rd. The last uptick in the trailing average occurred on August 12th. The reported positive test rate was 5.7% yesterday.
  • Governor DeSantis announced the state has applied for the Lost Wages Assistance Program. Should the federal government approve Florida’s application, Floridians on unemployment due to the pandemic as of August 1st would receive supplemental weekly payments of $300. Benefits would be paid retroactively to August 1st.
  • An Orlando Circuit Court ruled state and local governments may lawfully continue to ban alcohol sales at bars and revoke licenses from those who violate mandates. This ruling involved a case brought by an Orlando area bar owner.
  • Florida CFO & Chief Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis dispatched Florida search and rescue teams to Louisiana to aid the emergency response to hurricane Laura. The teams of state first responders are expected to remain deployed for the next two-weeks. Hurricane Laura made landfall with top winds of 150 mph & storm surge exceeding ten feet.
