Some local police departments have been looking into their policies amidst the civil unrest that's been going on since the death of George Floyd.
"We took a look at our policies to make sure there's nothing in there would be negative. I know there's been a push to ban chokeholds around the country and for many years we've banned chokeholds, unless in the case that deadly force needs to be used."
Palm Springs Police Chief Tom Ceccarelli says his agency did decide one change needed to be made.
"As far as our policy, we never had a duty to intervene if an officer sees something going on. Though I'd hope officers would intervene if they saw another officer doing something that's inappropriate."
So now the duty to intervene is officially on the books in Palm Springs.
"Some things that we've always taken for granted that we believed our personnel should be doing, we didn't have in a policy so we needed to codify that in policy now to say hey you know this is our policy."
The chief also speaks about the changes made due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
