Illegal immigration continues to plummet
Bottom Line: The latest illegal border crossing data is in from the US Customs and Border Protection agency showing results through August and the story remained the same as what we’ve seen throughout 2020. Fewer attempted illegal border crossings took place at our Southwest Border in August compared to a year ago. The government’s fiscal year runs October through September. During the 2019 fiscal year through August, a total of 925,000+ detentions had been made of illegal immigrants crossing the Southwest Border. Through August this year, the number has totaled 400,000 for a decline of 57%.
A combination of completed border wall and a decline in organized caravans has led to the dramatic improvement. As of September, Customs and Border Patrol reported the completion of the expansion of greater than 300 miles of additional wall along our southern border, with some of the most exploited areas now being accounted for and construction ongoing. The progress with the wall along with the stalling of organized caravans orchestrated by American leftist groups like Pueblo Sin Fronteras during the pandemic have led to a huge improvement in illegal crossings. Still, with an average of nearly 1,200 illegal crossings attempted per day there’s more work to do, but it’s clear that The Wall is working. To be continued...
