- After spending $100 million in advertising to support Joe Biden in Florida, Michael Bloomberg has raised/pledged $17 million to the Florida Rights Restitution Coalition's effort to pay off debts owed by felons to enable them to vote. The Coalition has raised $22 million thus far and is focusing money raised to pay off debts of $1,500 or less. An estimated 31,100 former Florida felons have had their debts paid off through this effort. The voter registration deadline is October 5th. Related...
- Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz has called on Attorney General Ashley Moody to investigate whether the money pledged by Bloomberg and related donors to pay of felon debts is bribery given his endorsement of Joe Biden for President.
- The recent, active, hurricane seasons are leading to significantly higher property insurance costs. The average rate increase for Florida’s property insurers has been approximately 10%. Ten property insurance companies have sought increases in excess of 15% this year. That’s more than the prior nine years combined.
- South Florida’s housing market continued to boom in August as sales and prices rose throughout the TriCounty according to the Florida Association of Realtors. Total sales increases ranged from 6% (Miami-Dade) to 11% (Palm Beach County). Prices for single family homes rose by greater than 12% throughout the TriCounty.
