Florida’s first vote by mail update for the Presidential election
Bottom Line: Florida’s Division of Elections began official tracking for votes by mail for the general election on Sunday. As of Monday’s reporting, there were a few notable takeaways. Among them...
- More votes by mail have been cast than all early voting for the August Primary Elections
- More Democrats have returned ballots than Republicans on a relative and absolute basis
South Florida is the epicenter of voting by mail with Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward Counties leading in votes by mail (with the three counties accounting for more than half of votes by mail already).
It’s clear at the onset that Democrats have successfully built upon their vote by mail campaign used in the August Primary elections. The three counties with the most Democrats statewide are leading in votes by mail requested and received thus far by a margin that well exceeds their populations. Broward, Miami Dade and Palm Beach Counties account for 29% of the state’s population but have accounted for greater than 51% of all votes by mail cast thus far. As of yesterday, on an absolute basis here’s the party breakout on votes received in Florida:
- Democrats: 54%
- Republicans: 28%
- NPA’s & Others: 19%
