Top Three Takeaways – November 11th

  1. The Libertarian party was to Trump what the Green party was to Gore. Cato analysis of Libertarian voters demonstrates that when a Libertarian candidate isn’t available, they break 74% for Republicans. This is essentially the inverse of Green Party voters and their relationship to Democrats. In Florida 2000, a race won by George W. Bush by just over 500 votes, Green Party candidate Ralph Nader pulled in over 97,000 votes. It was and remains likely that minus a Green Party candidate in 2000, Al Gore would have won the election. As we await legal challenges in a record number of sub-1% states breaking for one candidate (four). It’s become quite clear Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen was this year’s foil for Trump. In Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – Jo Jorgensen pulled in enough support to more than account for the differences in those states.
  2. Katy Perry did the right thing and illustrated how pervasive bigotry is on the left. On Sunday she tweeted: The first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them. #FamilyFirst. Call your family today. Happy Sunday. Generally, if celebrities are making news for political statements, I tune out. Hollywood/the entertainment industry, not exactly where I go for political insight, nor – is it the reason they obtained fame in the first place. That being said, Katy Perry’s message couldn’t have been more appropriate. Because she dared say that she reached out to her Trump supporting family members to tell them she loved them – she's been lambasted by the people who generally identify with her politically. Perhaps this will begin to be a wakeup call to many on the left who love this country and their families, political differences notwithstanding. The AOC wing of the left doesn’t believe in tolerance or acceptance. Democrats have embraced bigotry as a firm plank of their party as evidenced by what Katy Perry has dealt with for daring to say she loves her family. This has been at the root of the cancel culture as well. It’s time for it to end, which means Democrats need to be the ones to reject it from their party as there is a battle of the heart and soul of where the party is to go from here – starting with the future of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
  3. It’s Veterans Day. Happy Veterans Day and thank you to all who’ve served so that I have the freedom to talk to you right now. And yeah, we’ve got a mess on our hands politically right now, but it’s our mess and it’s still better than everyone else’s. May God bless you and this country.
