Florida’s election certification & final results

Bottom Line: The expression it’s not over until the fat lady sings is rarely used in today’s PC society but whatever’s considered appropriate to take the place of the obese female’s music is about to apply to Florida’s 2020 elections. Tomorrow is certification day in Florida. With the Presidential election still being contested in several states I’m reminded of how great it is for Florida to be the example of how to run elections this time. It’s well known it was a good cycle for Republicans in our state. With all recounts now accounted for and all votes about to be certified here’s the breakdown of what happened in Florida based on election type:

  • Presidential election: Trump +3.4%
  • Florida State Senate out of 20 races up for election: GOP won 12 races including one pickup for a 24-16 advantage in Florida’s state senate
  • Florida State House: GOP won 78 of 120 races netting four pickups for a 78-42 advantage

Entering 2021 there will be more elected Republicans in the state of Florida than at any time previous top to bottom. For those on the right who are still reeling from the prospect of a Biden Presidency, there’s a lot to feel good about right here at home. It’s notable that many of the pollsters and pundits who were once again very wrong about Florida’s elections (the average pollster missed the final outcome by 4.3%) are also wrong about public opinion of Governor DeSantis, underrepresenting his approval as we look towards the 2022 cycle. It's unlikely Florida’s Republicans would have just completed the most successful election cycle in the party’s history in our state if Governor DeSantis were as unpopular as pollsters have suggested he is since the pandemic hit.
