For the first time in five months, all six lanes of the Roosevelt Bridge are back open.
The Florida Department of Transportation shut down the entire span for a short time when severe corrosion and cracks were discovered during a routine inspection. For several months, only one direction of the bridge in Stuart was open for traffic, running both north and south.
F-DOT had planned to reopen all lanes in January, but the contractor was able to speed up the project and finish ahead of schedule.
Weight restrictions have been lifted.
There is more work to be done, however, as crews will begin sealing the northbound span as a safety precaution after the Thanksgiving weekend.
